James has had a tragic past, he creates a new identity of himself to help forget and escape his tragic life. He has a new name 'Smith' and a new personality. The depressed James has come to an end. Smith opens up to a new world, where everyone loves him and sees him as the most perfect and happiest guy, which is what Smith want
people to see, but under all of that, he still feels the james in him, the sad, poor boy. Smith will do what it takes to have james faded away, but Smith has fallen back into reality and it's shining through to his audience and they think that he is all a lie. He has a choice to escape from his fantasy, but to do that he has to kill himself. He says he wants to go back, but now he has now choice but to stay in the magical world he created.
